Keeping Up With The Do512 All-Stars: part 18

As we reported last week, we’ve decided to move our weekly All-Star spotlights from Monday to Friday. We figure that will have given our favorite local media, bloggers, event experts, and professional going out-ers a chance to recap their week, and to make their event recommendations for the weekend. We think our All-Stars are pretty damn cool, and every time we check up on them we find something interesting and informative. That’s what these weekly All-Star spotlight are all about. So let’s get to it:

http://do512blog.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/cassiday_headshots-7.jpg?w=240All-Star Cassiday Proctor is a member of Austin’s #1 morning radio show, The JB and Sandy Morning Show on Mix 94.7 FM. You can keep up with Cassiday at her blog on Mix947.com, where we found this gem:

All-Star Austin Bloggy Limits is a website based in Austin about music in and around Austin. They stay informed on the good shows that are coming to town, and share music and video from a variety of local and up-and-coming artists. Austin Bloggy highly recommends you check out the Handsome Furs tonight, and has the scoop on a new Austin band Equals:

Handsome Furs at the ‘Hawk

As I’ve mentioned in the past, there are roughly 500 bands affiliated with Canadian indie-rockers, Wolf Parade. Handsome Furs is one such band. The Furs, is Wolf Parader, Dan Boeckner and his wife as a 2-piece electronic outfit. When I’m not touring with my other bands, I like to hit the road with my significant other and some Casios, so I can totally identify with Handsome Furs. Their latest album Sound Kapital is a thing of fun and beauty, I look forward to hearing them performed on the Mohawk‘s outside stage tonight. If you want to get down with the Handsome Furs and I tonight, you best snag yourself some tickets. Sure, tickets are available now but if you wait until 10 o’clock tonight and try to pay at the door the other hipsters will just laugh at you because the show will be sold-out by then bro.

Equals EP Release Party at Emo’s

Austin is really turning out some great instrumental rock bands lately. Last Friday The Calm Blue Sea played a fantastic show at Emo’s and tonight it’s Equals. The band is celebrating the release of their latest EP, which you can download two tracks from, for free at their bandcamp page (linked back there). You can also check one of them out on Soundcloud if that’s your preferred method of song preview. Their songs are melodic, with lyrical guitar inter-play, tight percussion and bursts of fury. This should be a great show for your Thursday night. If you’re interested in checking this out tonight, you can still grab yourself some tickets for the, bargain price, of $5.

Our old pal Chris Trew aka Terp2it has recently been splitting time between New Orleans and Austin. This quadruple threat (comedian, actor,  rapper, and improv comedy teacher) took some time out of his busy schedule recently to give us an update on his blog at terp2it.com, which you can read in its entirety below. upon taking a quick glance at his Facebook page we learned that Terp2it’s new project, Battle Rap Royal, is heading to FunFunFun Fest. Oh the humanity!

Anutha Roundup 9!

It’s the latest list of 9 notable things happening that should be called Notable 9 but it’s not and I can’t for the life of me figure out why!

#1. I’m a Hornets Beater: I got to be one of the guest writers on my favorite sports website of all time, Hornets247. Read up on it here and tell ‘em I sent you.

#2. Shows Shows Shows in New Orleans: We’ve been doing all we can to get more shows up in New Orleans (my new primary place of residence if you haven’t heard). So far so good (the event below is this Wednesday at The Shadowbox!). More work to do, stay up with the Nola Comedy.

#3. Shows Show Shows in Austin: I’m back in Austin this weekend for shows on Friday at 9:00p, Saturday at 9:00 and 10:30p and then next Wednesday at 9:30p, next Friday and Saturday at 10:30p. Austin Comedy lives at TNM.

#4. Fun Fun Fun Fest I’m honored to be part of the comedy stage lineup at the 6th Annual Fun Fun Fun Fest this November. Check it here, get your passes, turkey!

#5. The Air Sex World Championships: The tour hits the West Coast this October. If you live in L.A., Tempe, San Fran, Eugene or any other place that we are going that I am mysteriously leaving off this list then I hope to see you out!

#6. Slacker 2011: I got to participate in the Slacker 2011 remake of the iconic Austin film. It’s premiering at the end of the month at The Paramount and the trailer is right chea:

#7. Hair vs. Beard If one was going to get shortened, which would you prefer? Let me know on Twitter.

#8. ChrisTrew.biz: I’m making my second appearance this Sunday at Anarchy Championship Wrestling and my official debut as ChrisTrew.biz. More info here. Get your tickets, turkey.

#9. Hell Yes Fest: Our comedy festival is hitting New Orleans this November and we’re raising money on Kickstarter. Throw some change in the bucket here.

Chris is on Do512 and Twitter and Facebook.
