What if we lived in a world where the humans weren’t the dominant species? Where apes ruled the planet and we were nothing but meager voiceless animals? Horrifying? Yes! Impossible? If you’ve ever seen that episode of The Simpsons where the dolphins take over, or Planet of the Apes, you’d know it was very possible, almost probable. Take a look at the future, as portrayed by this 1968 movie trailer:
The future looks suspiciously like the past, years ago when we were half-evolved Neanderthals in loin cloths, but I suppose history can repeat itself. That was just the first of a series of Planet of the Apes movies that followed over the next 40 years: Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, and Battle for the Planet of the Apes. This Sunday, May 29, Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz is having a marathon of these iconic films for over eight hours of monkey madness!
As they do, Alamo will be offering surprises and ape-centric menu specials. Day of the Apes: Planet of the Apes Marathon starts at 10am and tickets can be purchased here. Fantastic Fest badgeholders get a discounted rate.
