Things are looking up for The Bright Light Social Hour. A band with a variety of sounds anchored by their commitment to robust facial hair, the group of Austin natives has been on a tear of performances lately. Since their 2009 ACL performance, The Bright Light Social Hour was named the 2010 Best Indie Band by the Austin Chronicle, an award previously bestowed on the likes of Okkervil River and Octopus Project.
Bright Light Social Hour electrified audiences with a string of high energy performances during this year’s SXSW. Then, just a month later, they took home six awards at the Austin Music Awards, including band and album of the year. The band’s bluesy “Detroit” was awarded song of the year, and their diverse sound also includes funk-inspired radio favorite “Back and Forth” and songs with more traditional Americana and southern rock elements.
Of course, we can spend all day listing their awards and telling you how great The Bright Light Social Hour is, but why listen to us when you can check them out on Saturday, June 11, at Mohawk? The band is just finishing their nationwide tour in support of their debut album and EP, both of which were recorded right here in Austin. Next Saturday will be their Austin homecoming and will no doubt be a mind-blowing show to close out their month-long tour with a bang. And because we love you, we’re giving you a chance to win one of three pairs of free tickets. All you have to do is click the “RSVP” button on the event page.
