Keeping Up With The Do512 All-Stars: parto ocho

All-Star: Pushermania has the low down on hot new music and gives his opinions on the best bands out there. He creates and promotes events and is extremely entertaining to read on his blog Here’s what he had to say last week about the weekend’s Free Press Summer Fest in Houston:

AUSTIN think about how often people from Houston come out here to party. This is YOUR weekend to go EXPERIENCE HOUSTON. I hate when I hear people hate on Houston, when in reality its a dynamic and diverse city full of culture. It definitely does not get the rep that it deserves, and the Free Press folks are working to fix that. I wish I could go there and thank them in person.

Yay Houston! Read the rest of the entry here. For the record, FPSF was AWESOME.

“League of Extraordinary G’z are the best rappers currently rapping”

Seriously, and they are from Austin. They just did something a lot of cats in Texas don’t do, and that’s hit the West Coast on the road doing a promo tour spreading the good word. From what I have seen an heard they made a good impact and already have another run planned for later this summer. Check out these videos from the road, DEFINITELY DOWNLOAD their latest mixtape – Concealed Weapons Vol. 3, Mixed by my brother Rapid Ric and get yourself familiar with this 8 man wrecking crew. I am not kidding when I say that I think these dudes are currently the dopest dudes rapping.
West Coast legends and outspoken pioneers of the whole rap game are coming back for that ass. THIS is a reunion I am stoked about. I used to see them perform at clubs on the north side of Houston way back when I was a teenager.

All-Star: AustinVida is always up on the latest in Latin everything. From live music to album and film reviews, to artist interviews and anything else Latino and newsworthy in Austin.
In their recap of May’s Pachanga Fest, they obviously had a sincere appreciation for the music.
I think the remarkable thing about live music is witnessing the magic fall into place– aligning itself with sound as the artist bangs relentlessly on keys, or the dumb-founding and natural way their fingers strum strings. There is beauty in witnessing a genius perform their art. It feels as though you are watching a vulnerable being complete unravel and reveal themselves. There is almost a bit of shame as you watch someone fall in a complete trance– especially during Maneja Beto’s performance. Without a doubt they are painfully brilliant, to where you find yourself blushing, and then gawking without shame in awe. You almost loose that rhythm, and your swaying becomes an uninterrupted stare.

For the closing of The Ghost Room, Austin Vida had their own showcase, featuring some of Austin’s best Latin music, including Maneja Beto shown below.
