When listening to new music these days I often find myself pining for some 90’s rock. Whether it’s a subliminal longing or a straight up “I need Foo Fighters NOW,” I’m always refreshed to see that a band like Eels is coming into town. You’ve heard them in the soundtracks for Road Trip, Scream 2 and American Beauty, and more recently, Yes Man and the Shrek Triology.
Their show at Stubb’s on July 20th with The Submarines will be a night of nostalgia, especially for those of us who remember getting in trouble with our parents for listening to Mr. E’s Beautiful Blues (which had the at the time unspeakable lyrics “Goddamn right, it’s a beautiful day!” in the chorus.)
Joining them at Stubb’s will be L.A.’s The Submarines, an indie pop duo (trio live) who have just released a new album entitled Love Notes/Letter Bombs:
