If you happen to make your way to Momo’s tomorrow night, you’re going to be in for a surprise. Why? Because you’ll be greeted by a whirlwind wildly fantastic music. Your ears will be thanking you while they enjoy music by San Francisco-based world music band, Rupa and the April Fishes along with Minor Mishap Marching Band & Ginger Thompson.
When I think about Rupa and the April Fishes, the word “blending” comes to mind. Their music is all about the blending of cultures, languages, and instruments. The band’s sound is as rich and as interesting as Rupa Marya herself, the woman who founded the band. Born in the United States to Indian parents, Marya lived in San Francisco, India, and Southern France during her childhood. I guess she picked up a few languages along the way, because Rupa and the April Fishes has songs in French, Spanish, English, and Hindi. Oh, there’s something else you should know about Marya. She is kind of a superhero. When she’s not touring and performing, she is busy saving lives as a doctor of internal medicine.
You also wouldn’t want to miss Minor Mishap Marching Band and Ginger Thompson.
