We love BBQ. (So much in fact, that we made our own list of BBQ restaurants.) We also love people who make it easier for us to get BBQ. Author Gloria Corral has done everyone a HUGE favor and compiled the best barbeque joints in Austin in a book she’s calling “Barbecue Lover’s Guide to Austin.” We recently got our hands on a copy (Thanks Gloria!!) and it’s already making us hungry for some brisket and ribs.
She’s lived here for a short two years and must have been super busy because she actually went to all of these restaurants to try their menus. Talk about researching your subject! Corral organizes the restaurants by location (Downtown, the quadrants, Round Rock and the outskirts,) to take you on a literary “tour” BBQ restaurants. The book doesn’t just describe the menu, but delves into the history and style of each restaurant, giving you a well rounded description of what to expect on a visit. It also provides the address, hours of operation, and whether or not they’re cash only. This is going to be an essential book for anyone traveling to or living in Austin!
Included in the back of the book are BBQ tips for visitors as well as trivia. Does brisket loses 1/3 of its weight in the smoker? Find out by reading Barbecue Lover’s Guide to Austin by Gloria Corral. Buy it here!
Gloria’s apparently working on a second edition of the book, which will include more content and even some recipies!
