Beer is many things. For starters, it’s good. Like, really good. So good in fact, according to scientists, that it’s better for you after a workout than water, heathlier than milk, and in moderation, associated with a decreased risk of cardiac disease and stroke. It’s also one of the world’s oldest prepared beverages, and according to legend, proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. Are you thirsty yet? Because I sure am.
What’s the purpose of this fermented foreplay? Just to make sure you’re not taking beer for granted. More specifically, we want you to be aware of the many great beers that are being brewed right here in our own backyard. There are more than 2o active breweries in the state of Texas, and a good handful of them call Austin home.
Some of the people brewing beer right here in Austin are Independence Brewing Company, Jester King Craft Brewery, Live Oak Brewing Company, Thirsty Planet Brewing, (512) Brewing Company, Circle Brewing Company, Hops and Grain Brewery, South Austin Brewing, and Austin Beer Works. We have read that there my be a couple more breweries soon to open in Austin as well. Plus right up the road in Cedar Park is the Twisted X Brewing Company, and the Real Ale Brewing Company is located out in Blanco.
If you want to find out more about these area masters of brewer’s art, visit the Breweries in Austin page on Do512. A good way to familiarize yourself is of course by taking a brewery tour, so we have information on all of the local brewery tours included on our listings. Take a look at those by clicking here.
We also listed a bunch of local brewpubs that brew their own craft beers, such as the Black Star Co-op Pub and Brewery, The Draught House Pub & Brewery, Lovejoy’s, North by Northwest, and Uncle Billy’s.
Do you know of an Austin brewery or brewpub that we failed to include? Please shoot us a message and let us know about it!
