Attention Bands – Do512 Is Here For You

Believe it or not, there’s actually a large group of people that use our site not only to find cheap places to drink, but also to find the best concerts happening around Austin. So how do you reach this vital group of sometimes sober potential fans? Look no further, marketer extraordinaire! Just scroll through the following how-to guide for promoting your band, and pretty soon you’ll be a bigger deal on our site than beer itself. Well, maybe.

  1. Create a profile
    1. Go to “Add an Event”                                   *Click on any photo to enlarge it
    2. Click the blue “add your own” link under the “Bands” section to add your band
    3. Fill in all your info (Title, Photo, Description, etc.)
    4. Adding your URL, Facebook, Twitter, or MySpace accounts will automatically add icons on your profile that link to your various social media accounts. Magic? NO. It’s just the Internet.
    5. Now you’re an official listed band on Do512! Prepare to start drownin’ in groupies.
    6. From now on, you can access your band page simply by searching for your band’s name and clicking on the blue link that comes up under “Bands”
    7. Don’t worry if you want to make changes to your band’s profile as your music career progresses. You can update lots of your information by simply clicking “[Edit This Band]” next to your band’s name. That way when you transition from playing jazz fusion to thrash metal, you can change your profile from “The Smoove Keys” to “Blood From a Crying Infant”
    8. Have a killer music video of your band? Desperate for non-spammy Twitter followers? All you have to do is email us at, and we’ll be happy to update/link your profile to any of the following:
      1. YouTube Video
      2. Twitter
      3. Facebook
      4. YouTube Channel
      5. Tags
      6. Grooveshark songs
      7. Lastfm url
  1. Promote yo’ self!
    1. Hopefully you have upcoming shows. If the show is already on, you’ll want to double check to make sure your band is listed accurately on the event. Scroll down on the event page to make sure your band appears on the event as it should. If it isn’t there or doesn’t look how you want it, feel free to email Rachel Daily at to request an update, or you can edit the event yourself by clicking “[Edit this event]” by the event’s title.
    2. If your band has upcoming shows that aren’t on the site, adding them is a breeze. (note: Make sure to double check that the event isn’t actually on the site by typing the event title in the search box in the top right corner of the screen. We don’t like to brag too much, but we have almost everything in Austin listed on our site, so chances are you can find it this way and save yourself some time and avoid duplicate events on the site.)
      1. To add your event, click the light blue “Add an event” button on the top right corner of your screen.
      2. Fill in all the information for your event (type, venue, date, etc.). If you want this event to show up on your band’s profile, you need to make sure to start typing the name of your band in the “band” field and then select it from the drop down list.
      3. Click the “Create” button at the end, and your event should be on the site. If you want to double check to make sure it’s all official and whatnot, just search for the event, and it should pop up.
      4. Repeat these steps for all of your shows. It’s free publicity! And it’s a lot more dignified than paying people to hand out your EP downtown.
    3. Combine your social networks with ours to form the Optimus Prime of Social Media!
      1. As much as we like throwing a bone to your band’s promotion, we can’t do it all. Use your own networks (Facebook, Twitter, Xenga?) to encourage your friends to follow your band on Do512.
      2. Anyone that follows your band will be automatically notified via email about any of your shows/events that are posted on Do512.
      3. Encourage your friends and followers to click the “I like it” button on your events. As more people “like” your events, the more prominently your events will be featured on the site.
      4. If any event gets enough likes to be in the top few events for a particular day, it will get featured in our “Do512 Top Picks” newsletter that goes out to 87,000 people each week! That’s approximately 86,999 more people reached than your typical email.
    4. Finally, if you want guaranteed buzz for your band, the safest bet is to advertise with us. We can perform all sorts of services for getting your band’s name out to the masses, including eye-catching ads on our homepage and social media campaigns with integrated prize giveaways. Plus, local bands get a special discounted advertising rate, because we’re all about keeping Austin weird, musical, and weirdly musical. Contact Kristin Owen at for more information on advertising opportunities.
  1. Once you’re set up, here’s what you need to do to get the most out of your band’s presence on Do512:
    1. Check your band’s profile page periodically to make sure everything is up to date (bio information, YouTube videos, Grooveshark tracks, etc.)
    2. Add to the site any upcoming shows or events that feature your band
