Hell if we care that it’s only Tuesday, this weekend is going to be amazing and planning must start now! Luckily, our work is already done for us. If you’re searching for fun this weekend you need look no further than Antone’s. With two nights of amazing shows it’ll be the place to be. Friday night brings us Bob Schneider’s band, The Scabs, playing with Akina Adderley & The Vintage Playboys. The Scabs are known to put on some of the funkiest shows to ever grace the Antone’s stage. Should you be in the mood for a dance party and some sexual innuendos (and really, when are you not?) then be sure not to miss this show.
But there’s more than one reason to make it to Antone’s on Friday night: between her growing fan base and gracing the cover of the Chronicle in June, Miss Adderley has certainly been receiving a lot of attention lately. Don’t miss your chance to check out Akina Adderley & The Vintage Playboys’ amazing live show! Akina comes from a long line of musicians who were contemporaries of Miles Davis and Ray Charles, so it’s no wonder that musical talent runs in her blood. She has some big shoes to fill and some serious weight to carry with her family name, but with talent like hers, you need not accuse her of riding her family’s coattails. Just sit back and try not to let your jaw hit the floor too hard.
On Saturday, the night will start off before the sun goes down with an early show featuring a solo Bob Schneider and Mitch Watkins at 6pm. Mitch Watkins is some of Texas’ best jazz talent, and as Bob’s many Austin fans know well, his shows never disappoint. Should you miss The Scabs on Friday, or just really love you some Bob Schneider, be there!
Saturday night heats up later in the evening when The Carrots take the stage for one of their very last shows ever. Take a moment to let that sink in. Let that marinate. We’re sorry if this is new news to you, but yes, The Carrots are breaking up. Being our favorite 60’s girl group-inspired hometown bands, we are sad to see them go but will love watching them play one of their last sets at one of the greatest venues in town. Playing with The Carrots will be Shapes Have Fangs, Curtis James & Grape Street, and The Ringers. All of these bands are amazing live, and with a crazy low cover charge for a Saturday night it’s sure to be a night to remember and one you do not want to miss!
