Do512 Welcomes Opal Divine’s!

Welcome to the Do512 family, Opal Divine’s! As one of our favorite spots for food and drinks in Austin, we couldn’t be more excited about this addition to our fam. But it’s not just one spot – they have three! For those of you not in the know, Opal Divine’s has three awesome locations spread through the city – The Freehouse on West 6th, Penn Field at 3601 S. Congress, and the Marina at Mopac & Parmer Lane.

Opal’s has recently revved up their menu, returning shrimp to the menu (hooray!) adding lots of new dishes and responding to customer requests for more salad and desert options. A few new things you ought to try: the Mexican style Divine Mary Shrimp Cocktail features a tangy, spicy cocktail sauce made using Opal’s special Bloody Mary mix. The new Pulled Pork tacos are a must try – pulled pork, grilled onions, shredded cabbage, Stubb’s wicked sauce and Opal’s phenomenal mango pico all wrapped up in a corn tortilla! But one thing you absolutely cannot miss is the Flat Iron Steak. It’s perfect, comes with two sides, and promises to be the best dinner you’ve had in quite some time. But don’t take our word for it – check it out for yourself!

Moving on, lets talk booze. Opal’s has one of Texas’ best scotch menus in the state, boasting a hearty 65 varieties of single malts from all regions of Scotland. Over 40 different tequilas are beckoning to be sipped, so perhaps sample the lot with amazing hand-made margaritas, made to order with the tequila of your choice and their Divine Rita mix made with fresh squeezed lime juice sweetened with organic agave nectar. Not the margarita type? No problem – Opal’s martini menu features recipes from around the world and each fresh pressed fruit drink is made to order with hand pressed fruit juice. Not to be outdone by liquor-libations, the beer menu offers 25 craft-brewed and imported draught beers including several seasonal brews through out the year.

Opal’s event calendar is something you won’t want to overlook. Coming up this month is “National Talk Like a Pirate Day” hosted on September 17th at The Freehouse Location and again on the 19th at Penn Field. Grab your best bandana, an eye patch or a gold earring and freshen up on your swashbucklin’ lingo! Both events will feature The Jolly Garogers with Emcee Quartermaster Griff, and prizes for the best pirate and wench costumes! Golden deblooms? A treasure chest stolen from the bottom of Davey Jones’ locker? Probably not, but one can dream.

Also coming up this month is the Malia Moore Benefit on September 24th at the  Penn Field location. Join Malia and some of her favorite Austin bands in the fight against Lissencephaly, and extremely rare brain disorder. Enjoy amazing live music and a silent auction featuring exotic trips and more, all the while raising money for a truly inspiring cause. Proceeds from the auction and any donations at the door will go to help Malia’s ongoing care and treatment as well as to the Texas Children’s Hospital for further research of Lissencephaly.

Fun fact: did you know that all three Opal Divine’s locations are now wind powered? That’s right – Opal’s has teamed up with Austin Energy GreenChoice and will support renewable sources by purchasing energy generated by wind, landfill methane and solar production plants. Moreover, Opal’s take-out now utilizes BioMass Sustainable food service packaging. Opal’s also takes pride in the products it serves and spotlights the fresh, natural vendors they work with. It’s awesome to see businesses who care not only about their guests but about our city and our planet alike.

Food for thought: Opal’s won “Best Happy Hour/Deal” in the 2011 Austin Chronicle’s Restaurant Readers Poll! Next time your heading home from a long day at the office, stop in to try their half-price bar appetizers Monday-Friday!

Welcome to the family, Opal’s! Get used to our faces at your happy hours.
