Going through an “experimental” phase? Well, I’m not really sure what that means, but if so you’ll most likely be really interested in this show coming to Austin next week. Thursday, October 13th, good ol’ new wave OMD will be performing at La Zona Rosa along with Washington – an offbeat little lady whose voice will steal your heart, guaranteed.
OMD, short for Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, is an English synthpop band who’ve been creating amazing music for longer than most of these youngster bands have been alive! Founded in 1978 by core members Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, things have changed since regarding sounds and even members – the groups lineup seems to have become a game of musical chairs over the years, except with really great music. OMD now falls under the categories of new wave, synthpop, post-punk, and awesome.
Joining OMD this evening will be indie-pop Washington. The Australian beauty by the name of Megan Washington (hence the title) gives fans a fantastic experience with her indie/minimalist performance which, though she has a band performing with her, is essentially a one-woman show. Washington won two 2010 ARIA Music Awards (Australia) – one for Best Female Artist and one for Breakthrough Artist, while receiving three more nominations for Album of the Year, Best Alternative Album, and Single of the Year. Interesting is a vast understatement. Don’t miss out!
Thursday, October 13th at La Zona Rosa. Doors at 8pm. Buy tickets.
