Heads up! Tonight’s your chance to catch a truly great show at The Parish. Baltimore based Wye Oak, the project of Andy Stack (drums and bass) and Jenn Wasner (guitar) is coming to town, and they’re a perfect mix of folk, Americana, rock and gritty blues. Don’t be fooled by their small number of members, this pair is capable of creating complex rhythms and harmonies. They can also break it down to the basics:
They’ll most likely be performing selections from their new record Civilian, released this March which we’ve been listening to this morning, and let me tell you, it’s spectacular! Reverby guitars, driving bass and beautiful vocals contributing to a well orchestrated sound supporting lyrics that are clever and smart. As a working band, Wye Oak (appropriately named after Maryland’s state tree) is doing all the right things to get their music out there, which they should because it’s awesome. The title track to their new album was on the preview for the lastest season of The Walking Dead. Zombies + good music = what else do you need? Nothing.
Also playing will be Erika Wennerstrom, who happens to be the lead singer of The Heartless Bastards. Saw her open for Wilco a couple of years ago, and she’s got an amazing voice with a really easy going stage personal. Check her out:
